Venture Whisky are behind the Ichiro’s Malt brand and of course it is named after their legendary founder Ichiro Akuto. Ichiro inherited the last remaining stocks of single malt from the Hanyu distillery (It was his Grandfathers) and Venture Whisky came to fruition in 2004. In 2008, the company opened its own distillery, Chichibu which is now highly sought after by collectors and whisky fans.
The Paris Edition (2021) from the Chichibu Distillery in Japan was bottled at 53.5%.
This bottle is numbered 1232 of only 1847 bottles.

You’ve heard about Ichiro Akuto, right? If you haven’t, it’s about time you did! He is a rock star of the Japanese whisky world, and his family have been in the alcoholic beverage industry since the 1600s. Ichiro’s father ran the Hanyu distillery and experimented with whisky making until his unfortunate bankruptcy. Ichiro then founded his own Chichibu distillery, acquired the remains of the Hanyu stock and sold it as his own. Here, we have Ichiro’s malt whisky that was recently released. It is from the On The Way range of Ichiro. Like everything else from Ichiro, a true delight!
Chichibu Single Malt Peated 2016 Limited Edition
The particular Chichibu expression is a recent addition to the distillery’s Peated range, in the form of a single cask heavily peated whisky, originally distilled in 2012, and bottled in 2016 at 54.5% ABV cask strength. Despite the intense smoke, a subtle hint of gentle fruit brings forth a wonderful smoothness and balance.

Chichibu distillery is a small distillery with only nine full-time employees. The distillery is owned by Venture whisky, which was founded in 2004 in Chichibu city, Saitama, just outside of Tokyo (hence its name). This particular Ichiro’s Malt Chichibu The Peated is a 2018 release presented in a 700ml regular bottle with box. As with everything else from the Chichibu distillery, it comes highly recommended.
Ichiro's Malt Double Distilleries 2021
Ichiro’s Malt Double Distilleries 2021 is a Japanese blended malt whisky, born from a collaboration between Chichibu and Komagatake distilleries. Matured in a combination of ex-bourbon, American white oak and ex-sherry casks, it holds aromas of caramel, old books, mango, pineapple and orange that fill the nose, complemented by notes of banana, pineapple, mango, sea salt and vanilla throughout the palate.
CHICHIBU ICHIROS MALT AND GRAIN BLENDED
While the exact source of the material is not published by the somewhat secretive Chichibu, we know this is a blend of Japanese distilled material, vatted with Whiskies sourced from around the world. In addition to Whisky from Ichiro Akuto’s own stocks–including, potentially–Hanyu and Karuizawa, the blend contains spirits from Canada, the United States, Ireland and Scotland. The imported Whiskies were between three and five years old, aged in their country of origin before being carefully blended with local Japanese material and matured for a further 1-3 years at Chichibu. The Whisky is vatted in two 5,000-litre wooden barrels built by French cooper Taransaud. It’s non-chill filtered and non-coloured. It’s an outstanding example from this cult distiller.
